Thankfully for those of us that live in Kentucky we are still in the earlier stages of the NEM program (Net Energy Metering), this means we are a less regulated state unlike others. Net metering allows citizens to sell kilowatt hours (energy) back to the grid, making the installation of solar and other alternative electricity sources a cheaper project. 29 utility companies across Kentucky offer Net Metering which allows you to fully offset your bill without paying outrageous amounts of money. Although this is a standing benefit it is limited and has been heavily regulated in other states. As Kentucky continues to climb the ranks of solar integration here in Kentucky your time to take advantage of it will slowly diminish unfortunately.
In Kentucky there is a federal tax credit which allows you to directly offset what you pay in taxes. For example in the case of a $30,000 residential install you would have $9,000 eligible to go towards offsetting your tax liability. For more information on how you qualify for this and more info on its limitations please refer to the Rebates & Incentives page!
